your whole argument is based on two foreign based sources or rather cables. that lacks credibility. what does the local media say about it? please include those as well, you just cant ignore the local media and have faith in foreign sources. Also you only talk about the Human Rights violations from the SL Government side. I have long had a soft corner for Charles Havilland, the local BBC Correspondent. Indeed, as Marlow said of Lord Jim, have I not stood up for him, when Sri Lankans to whom one white reporter is just like another thought the BBC and Channel 4 were identical? I have argued, quite often recently, that the BBC (though not its rather strange Sinhala Service, with its conglomeration of old fashioned leftists) tries to be objective in its coverage of Sri Lanka, without succumbing to the temptation to stereotype.

I was saddened therefore to find in a report on the verdict on the Sarath Fonseka case that the BBC referred to him as Mahinda Rajapaksa’s ‘Ideological soulmate’. This was stereotyping with a vengeance, whereas the Voice of America, which I have always thought more simplistic, actually referred to Fonseka falling out with the President over differences as to political ideology.

Anyone looking at the evidence, not least that provided by Fonseka himself, in his letter of resignation, would realize that the latter was a more plausible interpretation. Fonseka referred to the President’s rejection of his proposal to expand the army, and also criticized him for too swift resettlement of the displaced. To assume then that one Sri Lankan nationalist is identical with another seemed totally unworthy of the BBC.

I suppose it is a mark of how little interest there is really in Sri Lanka that no one has bothered to explore the implications of the differences between the two, and more particularly the divergence between what Fonseka was advocating for a few months after the war ended, and the position he took up later. Not only his interview with Federica Jansz (whether or not one believes him or her as to what he actually said with regard to the White Flag Case), but also the persona Patricia Butenis seemed optimistic about according to Wikileaks, suggests a 180 degree turn from the chauvinist rather than nationalist ideologue who fell out with the President.

More surprisingly, no one drew attention to the elephant in the room, which somehow never found its way into the Courthouse either, namely Sarath Fonseka’s claim in Ambalangoda just a couple of months after the war ended that he had resisted instructions to accept the surrender of people carrying white flags. This was to my mind the most worrying allegation that was recorded in the State Department Report that was conveyed to us around October 2009. I suggested then that we answer that report promptly, as had very politely been requested by the Americans, and I believe we would have saved ourselves a great deal of trouble had that been done. But the panel the President appointed delayed meeting, and the report was overtaken by events, not least Sarath Fonseka’s candidacy and his very different interpretation, according to Frederica, of what happened in the White Flag case.

The language he is supposed to have used in July 2009 is most interesting. In the web report about the Ambalangoda speech to which the Americans referred, he was quoted as saying ‘I managed the war like a true soldier. I did not make decisions from A/C rooms. I was under pressure to stop the war even during the final phase. I got messages not to shoot those who are carrying white flags. A war is fought by soldiers. They do so by putting their lives on the line. Therefore, the decisions about war should be taken by the soldiers in the battlefront. Not the people in A/C rooms in Colombo. Our soldiers have seen in life the kind of destruction carried out by those people before they decided to come carrying a white flag. Therefore, they carried out their duties. We destroyed any one connected with the LTTE. That is how we won the war,’ Fonseka said at an event held in Ambalangoda to felicitate him on July 10.’

This has however been ignored subsequently, most notoriously by the Darusman report, even though it shows itself well acquainted with the State Department report otherwise. Of course it could be claimed that the West was only following Sri Lanka in this regard, since we too seem to have forgotten that earlier claim. But, given that Western journalists do not follow a Sri Lankan lead in other respects, I think there is another reason for their deafening silence.

Quite simply, had they noted that earlier claim, the question must have arisen as to why Fonseka changed so much. The man who had been pushing a supremacist ideology earlier, with longer detention for the displaced, had now turned into the great rescuer of the oppressed. Far from ignoring orders from Air Conditioned rooms to spare surrendees, Fonseka was now presenting himself as an innocent abroad, as compared to terrible war criminals.

It was an extraordinary performance, and as we know it backfired terribly, so that Fonseka promptly withdrew the claim (or claimed to have done so, though Federica declared that he ‘never showed any enthusiasm for the denial always admitting that he had said what he had said’). Why then had he got into all this? It could not have been only that Federica, who seems to have decided to support him simply out of animosity for the Rajapaksas but who needed to claim that he was the ideologically softer candidate, had pushed him into this embarrassing position. On the contrary, Fonseka himself was angling for such a characterization, for he had realized that that was his only hope of success. So he moved on to the wooing too of the TNA, which seems to have been taken in, surprisingly, given what a wily old bird Mr Sambandan normally is.

But the Americans seem to have been taken in too, if Wikileaks is anything to go by.That is the charitable position, and ignores the view that they were responsible for the conversion of Fonseka in the first place to an unconvincing saintliness. Indeed, even if they were responsible, I would argue that Robert Blake certainly would not have been taken in, but would rather have thought this a useful tool with which to apply pressure on the government. But sadly, not everyone is as intelligent as Robert Blake, and perhaps there were those who really thought that Christmas had come, and Fonseka as President would dish out all sorts of goodies to President Obama and Ranil Wickremesinghe as well as to the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam or whoever was flavor of the month at the time.

The BBC I had always thought to be much wiser. Not Charles, but his counterpart in Delhi, had Fonseka squarely in sight, when he told me that, had Fonseka won the election, it was not the Rajapaksas who would have had to fear being killed, but rather Ranil. Ranil I think had begun to suspect something of the sort. But in the strange game of double bluff that Ranil and Fonseka and the TNA and their Western adulators were playing, everyone would also have been taking out insurance. If the West thought Fonseka as President would hand over power to Ranil as Prime Minister, they would have had ways of convincing him to do the gentlemanly thing if he were proving recalcitrant – but if Ranil were out of the way, that strategy would not work.

It was strange then finding young Charles reiterating the old story that the President and Sarath Fonseka were ideological soulmates. This is perhaps the BBC’s way of affirming its conviction that, even when Frederica and the TNA were supporting him, he had not changed his spots. But it is sad that they have to drag the President into all this.

In that respect the very different perspective presented by the Voice of America suggests I hope that the Americans are now older and wiser. It is of course conceivable that they are potty enough to continue to think that Fonseka was the best hope for reconciliation and pluralism. I suspect that is too much for even American naivete, or idealism, or whatever you choose to call it, though that is a quality I have learned never to underestimate. But I would hope that they have finally realized that, charming though they may once have thought him, the ideology that the country actually voted for is preferable. Working harmoniously with that, building on its strengths, the rapid resettlement, the swift rehabilitation of former cadres, the intense programme of development in the North, would make more sense, because that would be the best way of helping to overcome any weaknesses, instead of using the man who took pride, according to the Report they wanted investigated, in destroying ‘anyone connected with the LTTE’.

     Its been a common site to see the non SL based media (like Maharaja) using the great King Dutugamunu's name to bug Mervin Silva.But most of the time those were indirect attacks rather than calling the guy directly from the Great Kings Name. Mervin never said to call him that but he bragged that he is been inherited.Mervin is certainly taking the media as a Joke and the guy needs to be on paper every day. That's a different story all together but, Today I came across the DM site and found this disgusting news which referrers to as "Dutugemunu in Lion city".
                                 Certainly its a shame to call any one living today from the Great Kings name.If it wasn't him we might not be speaking the same language as we do today. I don't know about the writer of this post but i assume the guy has learned a little bit of English simply because the guy went to an International School and has no freaking seance about the History of Sri Lanka. And the editor must be a son of a Kalu Sudda. Government should ban the media from using former Kings names in order to give cheap publicity to their carpy news items.

They can call it rituals and carry on this bloody act.But as modern humans we should think whats best and drop what ever non-realistic acts. I am 100% with Mervin and if Mother Kali do punish the people who did this , then this Kovil should be banned from SL.

Although I am a Buddhist, I have visited the Munneswaram Kovil. I as a Buddhist thought that these shrines will have the same peace and harmony and the respect for humans and animals that we usually see in our temples. But the recent events have revealed the much stinking & filthy side of these shrines that we respected so much. I consider this as a bitter truth of the reality of such worshiped places. The filthy rituals are not only go against all our Buddhist principles but they also go against any ethical norms acceptable to the civilized world. I will never ever make my feet filthy again visiting these barbaric places in my remaining life time. This is a very good lesson to all of us Buddhists for associating with such non-Buddhist places.

Ma Graduation is on tomorrow but still i haven't figured out what to wear :) anyway i only need to buy a white shirt so that wont be an big issue...oo..n a belt,since i got bite marks all over my belt now since Max tried to have it for a dessert...why i call it dessert might be a problem to you but the fellow gets aggressive only after a meal...gues da fellow thinks dats the way to burn da extra food dat has been consumed..ok back to the topic...well yaaaa i am getting graduated 2mooooo....hell yaa...soo damn happy simply because i'l prove others what i am capable of...after those wasted 4 years at school this is indeed my biggest achievement...why i called it wasted...mm..well i got 7 A's for ma O/L's n i ws on the top..then for the A/L's i simply dint work hard..i jst gave up...there were term exams where i didnt even though a book....if u put the number of hours spent on studies during da A/L's ,definitely i spent more time studying for my O/L's...basically those 4 years was a waste...

this is da peace of writing which i sent for the graduation souvenir...i have be completly honest wit ma self in it..belive me no crap talk.. :)

"Obtaining a first class degree was my only dream when i joined SICI and i am thrilled that i achieved it. Indeed this is one of my greatest achievements in life and I will cherish it for a very long time. Even though this might not take me to the peak, but what is important is the belief that we gain through our achievements, which will push us forward and make us achieve more.

I joined SICI after two failed attempts at A/L’s. But I always knew in my mind that the reason behind it was not my inability but the lack of hard work. I deeply regret that I couldn’t devote enough time for studies during my final years at college due to the extra activities I was involved in. We cannot see our past failures as reasons that we can’t start over. Just need to see them as obstacles to success. Surely we need to learn from the mistakes and also we might never learn otherwise.

When i look back at the past three and a half years at SICI it was certainly challenging but enjoyable and filled with lovely memories to be cherished a life time. All these would have not been possible without the guidance and care rendered to us. I would like to take this as an opportunity to thank all the local and foreign Lectures who thought me and supported me at both Diploma levels, Final year and to date. I would also like to thank all the friends whom stood by me through thick and thin, and most importantly to my Parents for supporting me in all aspects. Last but not least I thank SICI for giving us the opportunity to complete a recognized bachelor’s degree from a well ranked university in UK, without moving abroad.

Lastly to all the undergrads and my fellow graduates, we don't enter Universities as geniuses, and we don't leave as geniuses. We leave as learners, who are determined to succeed. Royal-Thomian annual hockey clash today

The sixth annual hockey encounter for the Orville Abeynaike Trophy between Royal and S. Thomas', will take place this evening at 4.30 p.m., at the Astro Turf Grounds, Reid Avenue, Colombo 7. The old boys match at 3.30 p.m. will precede the main match.

From its inaugural trophy match S. Thomas' have consecutively won all the encounters for the past five years.

But the Royalists have done well in recent years to narrow down the margin of defeat.

For the reason that in the year 2003 Royal lost by the odd 1 goal to Nil, and last year it lost 3 goals to 2. The difference being a solitary goal, and so a keen tussle will be on today on the Astro Turf. Royal College will be led by G. Dissanayake and S. Thomas' by D.N. Karunaratne.

In the old boys match the two captains are Royal - Manju Guanwardena and S. Thomas' - Mininda Morahela.

   Tamil issue should be addressed carefully...as stated in the article JR opposed to Chelvanayagam since the requests were not reasonable.True, if it was done the Tamils have more power than Sinhalese. Still i dont think that Pilleyan realizes that.
   Also not a single Sinhalese family owns a piece of land in Jaffna. That is not because they dint lived there but since the "sudda" came up with a rule saying not to sell land to the Sinhalese (had to be a Tamil if some one intended of buying land in Jaffna). So all the Sinhalese people who lived there many years ago also sold their lands to Tamils. If Tamils are allowed to live in Wellawatte then same has to be done in Jaffna. Pilleyan needs to understand that as well.
   All in all, I dont see a point in documenting rights.Sinhalese will be the first while others are treated equally.
   It is a fact that most people dont know much about the real history....this is a great explanation to all those who think that a War Victory is possible with out the help of the leader....even tho its a well proven fact some Colombo based idiots still cant admire MR's role during War era...best to read this article and see it your self...

Chief Minister- Eastern Province, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan better know as ‘Pillayan’, on Wednesday suggested that the powers of the provincial councils should be strengthened with more powers to the provinces.

“Government should allow to fully exercise the powers vested in the provincial councils,” the Chief minister told the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission. “That is the only way we can win the hearts and minds of the people,” he said.

He said that, in the past, mistakes made by successive leaders had paved the way for the creation of armed groups. “This is an appropriate time for the government to take correct action to safeguard the rights of the citizens of this country, as the government currently has a two-thirds majority in Parliament,” he said.

“There are land issues in the Eastern Province. In the past, permits have been issued for lands in the Eastern Province, but due to the war situation, people fled the area. If those people return and demand their land, we will not be able to allocate the same land, as they have been already allocated to other persons.

“However, if persons in possession of the original deeds, return and demand their land, we can make arrangements to get back the land for them,” he said. “I am doing my best to solve the land issues in the area, and have visited some of the locations personally. I am working towards restoring ethnic harmony,” Mr. Chandrakanthan said.

Responding to a question about his reaction to Muslims chased away from the north, he said that Muslims were not chased from the east, but that he was willing to submit a full report on land issues to the commission.

“In Sampur, there are about 6,000 people living in camps. The coal power project backed by the Indians is coming up. We will benefit economically from the project, as the sea is deeper than in the Hambantota port area. But the people want to return to their original lands. I am trying to resettle them in other areas. However, if the people insist on returning to their old areas, it is only the President who can take a decision on the matter,” he said.

“In the 1990’s, the armed forces committed atrocities against the people. That made me join the LTTE. I have seen many bodies. In 1990, there was a group who killed people by slashing them with knives. Three of my classmates too were taken away. Some who worshipped seeking their release were shot. Therefore, the politicians who were responsible for these incidents should tender their apologies,” he added.

He was asked whether he shouldn’t tender an apology for the killing of 600 policemen in the east.
“As a former member of the LTTE, I can tender an apology. They were killed in June 1990, while I joined the LTTE in 1991. Therefore, it is not proper for me to tender an apology. The then leader Karuna (Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, currently a minister in the government) could tender his apology.
“Initially, S.J.V. Chelvanayagam formed the Thamil Arasu Katchchi, and signed a pact with former Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike. But J.R. Jayewardene who was in the opposition opposed it.

He claimed the Tamils will have more rights and therefore, the pact was not implemented. Thereafter, former Prime Minister Dudley Senanayake and Chelavanayagam signed another agreement. That too did not work out. Later, the District Development Councils were formed, and that too failed. The Tamil people never asked for separation, but opposition politicians gave distorted versions of the Tamil demands. As a result, there were atrocities against the Tamils. When the Tamil parties failed to fulfill their aspirations, armed Tamil groups sprang up. There were differences among the groups, which resulted in rival killings. Finally, the LTTE became the recognized group to achieve the Eelam goal”.
He said that, after former president Jaywardene formed the government, the provincial council system was introduced with the assistance of the Indians.

“The person who opposed the Bandaranaike-Chelvanayagam pact, eventually went beyond that and entered into an agreement with India to set up the provincial council system,” he said.
“However, then President Ranasinghe Premadasa opposed the provincial council system, and captured power. He provided the LTTE with weapons and sabotaged the functioning of the provincial councils.

“I feel that former leaders Jayawardene and Premadasa betrayed the country,” he added.

Black Swan is out in the US on December 1st. I may be in the minority here, but I’m hoping it’s a return to the kind of ambitious, meditative storytelling Aronofsky displayed in The Fountain, rather than the more pedestrian effort that The Wrestler was. How do you think the movie looks so far?

Oh ! Prison... it´s a pity. It isn’t a place favorable for you sir. But there are people stays in peace than the outside. In year 2008 I was sent into the prison because of deserting the Army (leaving the job as a military doctor. I left the military during Ranil-Prabha peace pact time in 2003. I willingly joined military in 1996 just after my medical degree, merely to serve the soldiers. I served for 7 difficult years treating soldiers in various operational areas, mostly during Jayasikuru operation and several debacles such as Kilinochchi, EPS etc. ) I was astonished the worst sentence given by the military, but convinced myself as I breached military regulations. I didn´t develop any personal hatred against General Fonseka who personally took my case into consideration and willingly put me in civilian jail for more than 3 months. All my siblings and friends started cursing General Fonseka giving me such an awful punishment. Yet, I thought it in a different angle. He really did his job and no favors. This was 2008 when he was leading our army against LTTE rascals. I continued to respect him during the time of imprisonment as he was doing a great job for my country. Still, he is a real son of mother Lanka. Nobody can destroy that image even though he was sent to the prison. Unfortunately he sent me to Civilian Jail where I met underworld gangs, thieves, murderers, robbers, rapists etc. I was thinking that why they didn´t sent me to a military prison. Now I feel it was better that they sent me over there. People in the prison are a mirror image of the civilian society. They started taking care of me. As a matter of fact, most of the high-fi fellows sentenced to the prison never enter into prison wards but get treatments in the prison hospital. This is the reality. I never tried to use my connections and influences towards that destination if I had any. People who were in the prison never purposely ill-treated me though there were some painful incidents. Some found paper articles written about me during the battle time, working as a military doctor. At the end of the period I really felt bad to leave the place. Wlikada prison is a disgusting place. I never hope a person must go there, it is a real mess. There are lots and lots of irregularities being done by gangs inside. But the place I was sent secondarily, Padukka- open prison was a great relief for me. I set my mind to "go through every second of my time POSITIVELY”. It´s so unfortunate, that I met lots of military personal imprisoned for several years because of Desertion. Some deserters were forced to take the decision due to family matters, personal illnesses etc. There had been no imprisonments for some military men who did the same offense and no even a court-marshal for commanders who cowardly withdrew some of the big military camps killing hundreds of officers and thousands of soldiers. And no court cases for some ex-ministers who were involved in corruptions. There was a time that the government did operations to win elections. Just to recover 1km area Army had to sacrifice hundreds of casualties. I am not here to support HE the president for his decision. But it’s very apparent that the decision is biased. Honestly, General Fonseka’s extraordinary personality and psychology boomeranged into himself. He was a brilliant military man. But as a human being, he would not score much marks from people who have closely worked with him. He is a real rude person. Of course that’s the very reason he led the army such a remarkable way to neutralize the enemies. A priest cannot do that. Nevertheless, it is not an unknown thing there were several staff absentees during his stay in military hospital after experiencing injuries of the blast in Army HQ because of his cruelty. "If" general fonseka did breach the law, he deserves the punishment. But there must be more transparency on the issue as he was one of the key members led our national forces to eradicate LTTE terrorism. His name must have written in golden letters. But he himself shares the responsibility for the disaster what happened to him today.

TM Dilshan banned on entering Zimbabwe

Reports reaching from the Zimbabwe government in Harare state, the African nation's government had banned the Sri Lankan star cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan from entering its country.

The ban has been in active as per an alleged rape case that has taken place during the Sri Lankan cricket team's tour in Zimbabwe, which took place in June 2010. Reports state, Dilshan had raped a 17 year old white girl in an undisclosed location. Dilshan was the captain of the Sri Lankan team for this tour while 22 year old Angelo Mathews was the Vice Captain.

Reports reaching theNEWSmaster state, Dilshan along with Jeevan Mendis and Dilhara Fernando had visited a night club in Zimbabwe where they had forcefully taken the 17 year old to the above undisclosed location. Following this 'abduction' interestingly only Dilshan had raped her.

A high scoring One Day International Sri Lanka played and lost by a narrow margin in India last year had been fixed by

players, a top Indian bookmaker had told Indian newspaper Times of India.

The Bookmaker who was referring to the India vs. Sri Lanka ODI played at Rajkoton December 15, 2009 was quoted by the newspaper as saying "Saaf nahi tha (it wasn't clean)".

He had also told that it was the Sri Lankan players who had fixed the match. "That was the last match that I heard was suspicious. I can also say that Indian players are clean. They're among the most impeccable, especially the senior players," he was quoted by Times of India as saying.

The newspaper named the bookie as “Ramesh bhai”, a 42-year-old Marwari bookmaker worth 100 billion Indian Rupees in his own words, living 100 km from Jabalpur.

Sri Lanka won the toss, elected to field and India ran amok scoring 414 runs on a placid track. In reply, Sri Lanka rode on Tillakaratne Dilshan's massive 160 and almost chased the target before falling short by a mere three runs.

Sri Lanka bowled 27 extras in the game, India bowled 21 and a total of 825 runs were scored at the Madhavrao Scindia ground in Rajkot that day.

"Sri Lanka were 401/5 with just 14 more runs needed from seven balls. The bets were coming in fast because punters wanted to balance the stakes. At the start, India looked firm favourites and there were almost no takers forSri Lanka win. But towards the end, it all became a frenzy," the bookie had said.

Right then, he had received a text message on his mobile. The sender was a 20-year-old boy from Rajasthan who earlier used to work for him as a cleaner. He wrote: "Sab saude kaat do, aur call mat lena. India match le jar raha hai (Cancel all deals and don't take any further bets. India is winning the game)."

The bookmaker had said that instinct made him listen to his former employee and he turned out right. India won by three runs.

What was behind the SMS may never be known but the bookie continues to harp on the rumour of the amount of money that was transacted that night. "I am told that money around Rs 28 crore ($ 7 million or 805 million SL Rupees) changed hands that night," he said.

“India won that match with a ball to spare and someone sitting in Rajasthan had shelled out Rs 28 crore ($ 7.5m) to take the game till there and yet plant a result. I cannot tell you who the boy is or who he works for. That's the crux of our business, the network. If I didn't get that call, I would've ended up losing quite a bit of money that day.” He had added.

Business plans are written for many reasons. In this case and the most common reason is to acquire funding for the business from investors or banks.

Harry Smith intends to write a business plan in order to get funding from the bank. In doing so will force Harry Smith to think of the future, set up achievable goals, look for and analyze competitors , figure out how to reach markets , and setting up a good revenue system. So we see the importance of business strategy, not the plan itself for the business to be successful. A successful e-commerce implementation will contain a dedicated payments system, a customer support system and customer relationship management procedures.

Well the impact of the internet and e-commerce on a company's strategy and its profitability will differ from industry to industry. All the forces that shape competition in any given industry originated from one of five areas which are shown in figure 1. Interestingly according to the figure 1 (Porter, 2001) the internet make business less attractive for the owner since there are more (-) points than (+) points. But it's the other way round from the customers prospective

According to the Strategic Planning Process firstly an analysis should be conducted on Globetrotter Organization and its environment. This should focus on the organizations missions, goals, strengths, weakness, and assessing competitor factors, business need in the market place, and also the owner's ability to meet the needs.

I have performed a SWOT analysis on the given scenario and the results are as follows,

I have analyzed and shown the services provided by GT to Customer and to Hotels in the figure 2.

Well analysing only on Strategic elements will not be sufficient, so we need to take a look at the Operational elements as well. I have given the company Mission statement, marketing plan, financial Plan and operations plan below.

Mission Statement

The mission of the organization should be attractive and motivational,

"To become the number one resources provider for the global traveller with the collaboration of a unique mix of hotels; offering trustworthy and accurate services at all time."

Marketing plan

With the increase in popularity of web sites that provide online reservations, customers have the opportunity to compare prices within seconds and they tempt to go for the best offer. (e.g.hotwire.com) so harry smith needs to offer all possible services to keep the customer base intact and to attract new customers.

Financial plan

Harry Smith intends to take a bank loan to bare the infrastructure costs. Granting the loan will depend on the revenue model.

Revenue model

The revenue model of Globetrotter is based on transaction fees where the company receives a commission on the volume of the transaction.

Harry Smith must come into agreements with the hotel owners on the commission fee per transaction and to offer the hotels at special rates. If harry Smith offers a Hotel Room for the same amount as the particular hotel offers it on its web site then there's no way of continuing with the business. A Possible revenue model is shown below,

Operational plan

Also another option to consider is having a DR site in case of emergency.
Accept payments using credit cards B2C from customer using a credit card processing (Gateway) e.g. merchant banks and the credit card interchange (Visa, MasterCard)
So Harry Smith needs to create an merchant account which also includes signing contract with credit card companies (Visa ,MasterCard)
Purchase a credit card processing software (cyber cash, cyber source, this will depend on the web site host)

Part B

Well as stated in the scenario the heart of the Globetrotting Hotels system is its website, the databases of customers and the clients. As a pure-play organization any competitor can run Globetrotter out from business if the intender manages to force the GT web site offline for a short period of time.

In an e-commerce environment attacks occur on two channels. Those been the Communication Path and the Asserts. (Key computers, network and information assert.)We will first consider on assets in the GT environment and then move on to the former.

Threats on Asserts

Firstly we must identify the key Asserts that are vulnerable to attacks within the GT scenario. (Assert Identification), then assess the risk (Risk Assessment) and then prioritize by probability (Implementation). (Efraim Turban, 2006). Table 1 shows the information regading the identified asserts.

The risks and protential threats against these asserts are both Technical and non-Technical. Non –Technical methods can be called as social enginearing methods which basicaly palys on human trust, on an individuals desire to help , an individuals fear in getting into trouble etc.

Social Engineering Threats

Kevin Mitnick the famous hacker once quoted that more than half of his attacks were carried out through social engenering methods. (Mitnick, 2002) Globettrotter emplyess might recive mails requestion sensitive information such as passwords etc.Or the intender can contact the employees as the ISP and request valuable information. According to Kevin its all about building trust and playing with human stupidity. (Mitnick, 2002) So certain positions in the GT scenario are valnarable for these types of attacks.

Combat Social Engeniaring

Harry Smith can focus on three aspects which are globaly followed to combat the issues.

Education and Traning :
Educate all staff members about the social engineering tecniques.

Policies and Procedures :
Develop certain rules to follow which guide the emplyees to respect confidality.
- Penatration Testing:
  The policies ,procedures have to be tested by playing the role of a hacker and show the employees there weekness.

Also in the meantime Harry Smith needs to Physically secure the office premises as well. without going through much trouble woring about the technical aspects the intender can freely walk into the office and hack the web server or perform any kind of thef and go unnotice.

So Harry Smith needs to foucus on Access Control and Authendication tecniques.such as
All the emplyees schould be athondiated proir loging into the system,verfiy who and who are supposed to enter the server area, use security tools such as Passive Tokens, Active Tokens etc. implemention of securty camars. Boimetric Systems are also avilable but due to its high expensive nature Harry Smith can afford , not to consider it.

Technical Atacks

Moving into Technical Atacks on the asserts identified above , basically these type of attacks are done by programming code introduced to an Assert with the intention of recovering valuable information.

Securing E-commerce Communications for GT

Loking at the amount of security threats It's certain for an e-commernce site to have a well planned network structure.I have implemeted a plan based on the "cloud computing " concept(http://communication.howstuffworks.com/cloud-computing.htm) for GT scenario.The basic network diagram is shown below(figure 1) and the process/components are been discribed later. A common example for cloud compunting is our email services.

What is the Process ?

The network infastructure is hosted on a 3^rd party Cloud Provider such as 3Tera, Appistry, Cassatt etc. It primarily consists of 3 major components the UTM, VmWare and the SAN. Those are been described in the following table.

Security Mesures Taken..

Since the web site is needed to be updated by Globetortter employees they have been provided with a Virtual Private Network inoder to get a speedy connection and also to secure the data transfer channel.
Other transfer channels involving the customer,Hotels and the Merchant Bank are secured with SSL.
The UTM component which is instaled in the Cloud has 8 applications related to security and network trafic. (shown in the above table) UTM is responsible for securering the servers as wel as minimisonf data trafic.
Harry Smith needs to implement a Disaster Recovery site as well. having a extra site on another 3^rd party cloud is important,so that the DR site can take over if the first site fails.
Security standered ISO 27001-0 is followed through out the process.

Selecting a Payment System for GT

B2C(GT and customer) and B2B(GT and Hotels) are the two bussiness models in the GT scenario. There are many Online Payment Systems Avilable. I have criticaly discused Credit Card payment systems for the B2C transactions and Bank Transfers for B2B transactions below.

Using Credit Card Payments for B2C

This payment system has been widely accepted by consumers and merchants throughout the world, and by far the most popular methods of payments especially in the retail markets (Laudon and Traver, 2008).
Advantages in using this method are privacy, integrity, compatibility, good transaction efficiency, acceptability, convenience, mobility, low financial risk and anonymity.
Will Avoid the complexity associated with the digital cash or electronic cheques, consumers and vendors are also looking at credit card payments on the internet as one of possible time-tested alternative. (Singh Sumanjeet University of Delhi, 2009).

Online credit card payment seeks to address several limitations of online credit card payments for merchant including lack of authentication, repudiation of charges and credit card frauds.
Consumer fears about using credit card such as having to reveal credit information at multiple sites and repeatedly having to communicate sensitive information over the Internet. (Singh Sumanjeet University of Delhi, 2009)

Using Bank Wire Transfers for B2B

In the case of a bank-to-bank transfer, no actual cash is exchanged, but electronic balances in the respective accounts are adjusted accordingly.
This is a very secure way to transfer funds, as positive identification of both account holders is required
There is no chance of a charge back, unlike with a personal check.
B2B payments are mostly monthly payments
It's better to stay away from online payments when the transfer amounts are high.
No Security vulnerability at any end (partner Hotel or GT) because the respective bank take care of it.
Also Companies such as Western Union offer an alternate method of wire transfer. They maintain outlets worldwide which allows wire transfers between any outlets around the world.

Part c

With the emergence of wireless and mobile devices e-commerce has been extended to a new application and research area, M-commerce which can be defined as the buying and selling of goods and services, using wireless hand-held devices such as mobile phones, Smart Phones, PDAs etc.

Well M-commerce is classified simply as an extension of e-commerce in the first paragraph but we can also regard m-commerce as an independent business field and consequently as an alternative mechanism to e-commerce as well. Figure 1 gives the Holistic approach of M-commerce according to Tiwari, 2007.

Potential in adopting M-commerce to Globetrotter (GT)

According to the scenario the whole system is based on a traveller and GT should be able to provide access to the web site regardless of the location, and deliver their service via mobile devices. Strengths off this approach in business and technological perspective would be.

High Reach ability: As Figure 3 represent the growth rate of mobile subscribers in comparison to desktop internet users and fixed line subscribers shows clear gap. So according to the stats GT will be able to increase their customer base at a rapid rate if Harry Smith decides to provide services via mobile devises.

High Mobility: Obviously the global traveller will not have access to a desktop internet connection at every time or at every location but since mobile devices are portable the travellers will take the devices wherever they go. So the customers can make real-time contact with GT regardless of the location.

High convenience and accessibility: it's convenient for Customers to operate in a wireless environment; all they need is an internet enabled mobile device. Services like GPRS and 3G offer 'always-on' connections to the Internet, so a mobile terminal can provide the customer with continuous links to the Internet.

Localization – Knowing the customers location is the key to provide relevant services and network service providers can localize the customers with the use of techniques as GPS, GSM or UMTS. With localization, GT can accurately provide their existing services such as Store Locator, Road Maps, Travel guides and Travel Planner and in the meantime concentrate on new services and market opportunities like Location Based Advertising (with the relationship of the local stores), Emergency Response Cell Phone Calls, Telemetries etc.

M-commerce opens new business opportunities by enabling innovative, location-based services (LBS) that the Internet cannot offer. (Thiwari, 2007)

Reduced Hardware Cost: Customers will have to use a WAP enable mobile device to access the GT service. E.g. Smart Phones. As shown in figure 4, Cost is reduced at a rapid rate on new technological gargets and the sales will grow rapidly.

Also there are some other aspects which are empathized in figure 5 where Harry Smith will be able to focus on upon adopting M-Commerce strategy.

Capabilities of M-Commerce and its benefits

Individual Mobile services of similar kind can be bundled into applications. Table 1 shows some of those applications which are relevant to GT.

Having described various m-commerce applications, we need to take a look at the payment mechanisms possible for GT customers after the adoption of M-commerce. I have chosen 3 payment methods SMS Transactions Direct Mobile Billing and Mobile Web payments. Figure 6, 7, 8 empathize each method respectively.

Conclusion

We have clearly seen that mobile commerce is the birth of a brand new era open to endless possibilities for personal finance, trading and mobile transactions. Mobile phones will become a uniquely powerful distribution channel, available anywhere, anytime, in the palm of the consumer's hand. For Harry Smith it's always good to be the first mover than a follower into M-commence in order to expect a rapid growth in GT customer base.

Social media is a buzzword that is used to describe a variety of Web-based platforms, applications and technologies that enable people to socially interact with one another via the Web or Web 2.0.

Some examples of social media sites and applications include Facebook, YouTube, Del.icio.us, Twitter, Digg, blogs and other sites that have content largely contributed based on user participation that is, sites that organize and deliver user-generated content (UGC).(figure 1 shows a basic overview of Social Media)

Many businesses owners primarily focuses on getting listed in Google for no reason other than to drive Google's search traffic to their own Web space. Likewise most businesses are looking to leverage social media traffic to help their own sites and brands.

In the GT scenario Harry Smith can start with a company presence or profile on different, but appropriate, social media sites. Harry Smith can create a Fan page on Facebook, get his employees on LinkedIn, sign up for Twitter, or start submitting relevant articles and content to social bookmarking sites, like Digg and StumbleUpon. Also Harry Smith can use free blogs like Blogger to open a dialogue between him (business) and the customers.

The Influence of Social Networks

As mentioned in the scenario Harry Smith has intended to mainly focus on social networking to support Marketing. Here are some stats to back his decision. (Figure 2)

Research ideas, and learn more about what customers and prospects are saying about their needs and experiences on GT.
Gain new market and competitive insights to improve your products and services.
Create and join conversations with customers, prospects, partners and other constituents about key issues and concerns.
Create positive word-of-mouth about your products and services.
Grow your company's reputation as a thought leader.
Able to keep a pulse on what people are saying about GT (good or bad), competitors and major trends.
Able to represent GT in a positive, authentic way.
Harry Smith can build credibility for his expertise and business and link to customers and prospects quickly.
Ability to minimize damage from negative comments (customer blogs etc) about GT by quickly responding to complaints.
Steer people to other marketing programs within and outside GT.(easier to individually track and manage individual customer)
Promote new launches and products.

Minus Points

The businesses are engaged in social media and if GT gets comments and posts that are not positive that will harm the company's reputation. (Social media links can travel fast and bad news even faster)
Customers/Fans will get hurt if they don't get any responses to their posts. So GT has to increase the man power to keep the customers satisfied as the fan base grows.

Some Points to consider for Harry Smith, upon and after Implementing Social Network Marketing to GT.

Upon implementing a fan page or similar account in a popular web site Harry Smith should look for spaces where the customers have already formed the social glue that holds online relationships together, so you don't have to create a new space.
Linking up the profile pages. (E.g. include a link to your blog or Web site on Twitter profile.) Also By linking the profiles, with one update GT will be able to blast the message to multiple social sites. (Twitter application lets your Tweets become your Face book status update)

Be Open, Honest, and a Little Social. The employee or Harry Smith should let the fans know that he represent a business but there's also a person behind.
Harry Smith needs to make sure that staff members will continue to update these pages with fresh posts and Give a reason for customers to show up.(special offers .etc)

Merge Social Media With other Advertising techniques like
Google search engine optimism, email marketing, newsletters etc.

Optimize RSS feed to personal pages. With RSS feed it's possible distribute your content to other sites and share to other users.

Out of the many possible social media channels I have chosen Facebook and Twitter as Main Marketing Options for GT. Figure 6 and 7 will backup my decision.

these are the steps :
1) Extract the sdp-simulator.zip and go to bin folder, in there you will see startup-sdp-simulator.bat or startup-sdp-simulator.sh file. If you are windows user run the bat file of that. If you are a linux fan run the sh file by typing "sh startup-sdp-simulator.sh".
If it success you will see some information going on your command line. ~ , Go to your browser and access these URL :
http://127.0.0.1:8081/mosim
u done the first step successfully then ~. if further help please read the README file and pdf files.

2) By using simulator you can send sample sms to your application. So you need create an application to recieve sms. So by using the simulator you can send application to your application. great hah !.

3) So first lets try with the sample application that u have downloaded called "sample-mo-listener.zip" extract the file. please go throgh the README file and source code first for juz to get basic idea. if it is hard to get idea dont worry you will get those things time by time. This sample-mo-listener is the application for recieving sms from the user. To test this application we need a server. so i recommend you to download the apache tomcat server and install it. if you haven't that. then copy the sample-mo-listener folder to webapps folder in the apache-tomcat.

4) try to access that on browser http://localhost:8080/sample-mo-listener. obviously you will get 404 error dont worry becase there no file to display. But it is working. go to your apache-tomcat folder and
apache-tomcat-6.0.20/logs there is a file called catalina.out . open it.

5) Now here is time to run. go to http://127.0.0.1:8081/mosim and input the phone number and MO URL for the MO URL please type your http://localhost:8080/sample-mo-listener and input the message. Submit it .

6) now you are done. please re-open the catalina.out file and you will see your message on it. if you are a linux fan, have a tail -f [..your apache installed folder path]/logs/catalina.out

7) So try understand those source code first and if you have doubt please post it we will help

Yes I have two messages. The first is to my fellow Tamils. This is what I say. The war is over. Prabhakaran and other senior commanders are no more. Tamil Eelam is a lost cause. Please dont be deceived by irresponsible people into thinking that the armed struggle is not over. Please give up the confrontational attitude and help our broken people to re-build their lives. I appeal to members of the Tamil Diaspora and Tamil Nadu politicians to refrain from idle rhetoric and instead help Tamils in Sri Lanka to live in harmony and prosperity with others. We need reconciliation and co-operation not confrontation and friction

The second is to all my fellow Sri Lankans. We of the LTTE and other militant groups commenced an armed struggle to win back our lost rights. We thought Tamil Eelam was the answer and that the end will justify the means. In the course of our armed struggle we have caused much harm and misery to the people of Sri Lanka.
